    Professional Pet Nanny News

    Notes from Nanny:

A great big Thank You to all the clients we were able to provide service for this summer season. The Labor Day festivities started off the fall season with a huge bang! We found some of our staff at “ground central” servicing homes around Newport. The homes were visited a second time, gratis, after the fireworks finished to make sure our “kids” survived the loud event. We were greeted with wagging tails and smiling faces.

Sadness prevailed in our client base with a few losses this season. We will fondly remember Lucy & Sammy.  They offered comfort and love to their families each day. It was an honor to care. Lucy gave her Pet Nanny poison ivy in early spring as this huge Burmese Mountain dog frolicked and rolled in the grass. Sammy walked with Pet Nanny for many years  as a workday walker, side by side in all kinds of weather. I had the honor to spell her Pet Nanny while on vacation and I too fell in love with Sammy. She was a good pacer.

We had great kitty leapers and jumpers this season. They are all kitties to us! We like to say we had them leaping and jumping into the walls! The infamous “feather” flew high for all who had the opportunity to get to know a Pet Nanny. We like to say we got a “hunk of kitty” on many of occasion. Our fatty snack kids did well too. They watched the feather from the couch and this too worked well for them. Not all folks are made to run with the pack. Some need to sit back and think about it a while, take a nap and think about it again! As Pet Nannys have many stories inside us to tell. The pets we cared for this season live with us long after you return home. Thanks again for the adventure.

How to Get the Most Out of Our Service

Here are a few tips for those new clients who have never used a Pet Sitter before.

Please give us with as much notice to schedule that first interview with your Pet Nanny. One week is ideal. Holiday season is tricky. We offer some times for new clients those weeks for new consultations.  It takes time to schedule a first-time consultation. After your first consultation, you may call as quickly as the day before departure for services!

When you return home, please call our office and leave a message that you have returned. We need to know that your pets will be cared for, especially if they are on medications or need to be let out at certain times.

Please leave food, medicine, leashes, can openers, etc. in a customary location.  If you have moved these items or they are kept in unusual locations, please leave a note so we are not searching for them.

Try to have extra food and litter on hand in case your trip is extended.

Make sure your pets have collars that fit and current tags.

Note any changes in pet routine by emailing or phoning the office. Additionally, we ask that you also leave written details on the counter for backup to prevent miscommunication.

If there are any changes to the household schedule, please let us know. Examples include: friends who may be stoppying by, cleaning or gardening services, alarm code changes, lock changes, changes in emergency contact person, problems with sinks or toilets, etc.

Is there a neighbor, friend or relative entering your home or on your property to share care of the pets or home. Let us know their names and contact information. Our duties should be clearly outlined vs. others for feeding and medications. We do not want to do double duties for your pets.

Please leave a number where you may be reached while you travel.

Will service staff be on your property while you travel? Names and companies are needed.

Expect to meet your Pet Nanny for about 50 minutes during the consultation to review your needs. We record your home and pet needs in written form.  Making notes for your Pet Nanny before you meet them and after you depart is always great.

National Pet Theft Awareness Day – February 14th!

Nearly two million companion animals are stolen each year. Some are taken under false pretenses through “free to good home” ads or taken from humane shelters.  Some are picked up by thieves as strays that go loose.  And some are abducted right out of their yards.  These animals are then sold to research labs, animal-fighting rings, or puppy mills.  Only 10% of stolen pets are ever returned home.  Don’t let your pet become a victim! There are steps that you can take to protect your pet from theft.

    • Don’t leave your pet alone in your yard in open view.
    • Don’t tie your dog up outside of restaurants or stores.
    • Don’t leave your pet unattended in a car.
    • Don’t give your pet away through a ‘Free to good home” ad.  Visit their home fo the adopters and check their references. Require an adoption fee be paid.
    • Keep your dog indoors.  If you keep you dog outside, dock your gote.
    • Keep you dog on a leash during walks.
    • Keep your cat indoors.  Indoor cats live safer, longer, healthier lives.
    • Keep ID on your pet.  Consider secondary ID such as microchipping.
    • Keep recent photos of your pets on hand.

    Nannys swim with the best!
The dog days of summer end with the dogs! More than a thousand gathered to close the Blue Ash pool for the season. Much fun and frolic was had by all. Thanks to all who dressed "appropriately" for the occassion.
